clearMDM External Object Support
Spring ’26 introduces External Object Reparenting Rules, enabling organizations to preserve critical relationships between local Standard or Custom Objects (such as Account) and External Objects (for example, Purchase__x) during merge operations.
When records are merged, these new rules ensure that related External Object records are correctly reparented to the designated Master Record. This helps maintain a complete and accurate view of consolidated data.
The following demo provides an overview of the External Object Reparenting including where to setup the Rules.
External Object Reparenting Rule Setup
The rules are setup in the new tab, External Object Reparenting Setup. Follow these steps to create the Rule.
- Navigate to the ‘External Object Reparenting Rules Setup’ Tab.
- Select the ‘New’ button.
- Select the ‘Target Object’.
- Tick the ‘Is Active?’ checkbox.
- Give the ‘External Object Reparenting Rule’ a name.
- Select the ‘Child Relationship Name’. Note: This is the Child where the external Reparenting Occurs. In this Example, it is Purchases on Account.
- Enter the ‘External Column Name’. Note: This is the API name of the field that will hold the ID for both the External Object and the Target Object. In this example it will be Business Identifier.
- Click on Save.
The External Object Reparenting Rule has now been setup.
A new Job has been added called ‘External Object Reparenting’. To reparent external Objects, run the Job at a specified time.
